Resume format in Word
Resume format in Word and PDF, free to download.
Fill a short form, pick a layout and download your resume as an editable Word file and a print-ready PDF. Both files are yours to keep and edit; no sign-up needed to download.
Word (.docx) and PDF. No sign-up to download.
Step 1 of 6
Basics
Use an email you check. Recruiters reply there.
Word or PDF: which file to send.
Send a PDF wherever a portal or an email accepts one. It looks the same on every screen and printer, and job portals read a text PDF well.
Keep the Word file (.docx) to edit. You will change it for each job, and some company portals and recruiters ask for Word specifically.
Avoid a resume saved as an image or a scanned PDF. Software cannot read the text in a picture, so the application arrives looking empty.

Resume format in Word
What a good Word resume file has.
01
Real text, not text boxes
Every line is ordinary text in the page, so it can be read, searched and edited. Text boxes and shapes are often skipped by job portals.
02
Standard fonts
Fonts every computer has (Calibri, Cambria, Arial), so the file looks the same when the recruiter opens it.
03
Proper bullets
Word’s own bullet list, not typed dashes or symbols, so the layout survives editing.
04
Headings as headings
Education, Experience, Projects and Skills as real headings, which keeps the order clear to software.
05
One page for freshers
Margins and spacing that fit a fresher resume on one A4 page without shrinking the text.
06
A clean file name
Firstname-Lastname-Resume.docx, not resume-final-v3.docx.
Editing your resume in Word, without breaking it.
- Change the words, not the layout: keep the fonts, spacing and section order as they are.
- Use Save As → PDF in Word to make the PDF you send.
- Check the PDF before sending: open it, select the text and make sure it highlights as text.
- On a phone, edit the Word file in the Word or Google Docs app, then export a PDF.
- For each job, change the summary and the top bullets to match the post.
After you build it
One resume sent to every job misses most of them.
Recruiters search applicants by the words in their own job post. Tailoring adjusts your resume to each post, using the job’s words only where your experience backs them up, and keeps your layout exactly as it is.

What people ask before they build.
How do I get a resume format in Word?
Fill the short form on this page, pick a layout and download the resume as an editable Word (.docx) file and a PDF. No sign-up is needed to download.
Should I send my resume in Word or PDF?
Send a PDF where a portal or employer accepts it, because it looks the same on every device. Keep the Word file to edit, and send Word only when an employer asks for it.
Will a Word resume work with job portals and ATS software?
Yes, if it is ordinary text in one column with standard headings and fonts. Text boxes, tables used for layout, images and icons are what software most often misreads.
How do I convert my Word resume to PDF?
In Word, choose File, then Save As (or Export) and pick PDF. On a phone, open the file in the Word or Google Docs app and export or share it as PDF. Check that the text in the PDF can be selected.
Can I edit the resume after downloading it?
Yes. The Word file is yours to edit in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or WPS Office. Change the words for each job and keep the layout as it is.
Which fonts should a Word resume use?
Standard fonts every computer has, such as Calibri, Cambria or Arial, at 10 to 12 points for body text, so the file looks the same when the recruiter opens it.
