How an experienced resume differs from a fresher’s.
Your work comes first. Education moves below your experience and shrinks to one line per degree; school marks come off.
Each job shows results, not duties: what you changed, built or improved, with the tools you used, and numbers only where you can explain them.
One page up to about five years of experience; two pages after that, if every line is relevant to the job you want next.

Resume format for experienced professionals
The sections, in the order recruiters expect.
01
Header
Name, city, phone, email and LinkedIn. Current title in the summary, not under your name.
02
Summary
Two or three sentences: your role, your years in it, and the two strengths most relevant to the next job.
03
Experience
Newest first: title, company, dates, then three to five bullets about results. Older roles get fewer bullets.
04
Skills
The tools and methods you use now, written the way job posts write them.
05
Education
Degree, college and year. Leave out school marks once you have a few years of experience.
06
Certifications
Current, relevant certifications only, with the year.
Common mistakes on an experienced resume.
- Bullets that list responsibilities ("Responsible for…") instead of what you did.
- Every job since college described at the same length.
- An objective line instead of a summary of what you bring.
- Two-column designs sent through job portals, where the order can come out wrong.
- One resume for every job: lead with what each job asks for.
After you build it
One resume sent to every job misses most of them.
Recruiters search applicants by the words in their own job post. Tailoring adjusts your resume to each post, using the job’s words only where your experience backs them up, and keeps your layout exactly as it is.

What people ask before they build.
What is the best resume format for experienced professionals?
Reverse-chronological: a short summary, then experience with your newest job first and three to five results-focused bullets each, then skills, education and certifications. One page up to about five years of experience, two pages after that.
Where does education go on an experienced resume?
Below your experience. Keep it to degree, college and year, and leave out school marks once you have a few years of work behind you.
How should I describe my work experience?
With what you did and what came of it, not a list of duties. Start bullets with an action word, name the tools you used, and include numbers only where you can explain them in an interview.
Should an experienced resume have an objective?
Use a two or three line summary instead: your role, your years in it, and the strengths most relevant to the job you want next.
How far back should my experience go?
Give the last ten to fifteen years in detail. Older roles can be shortened to one line each, or grouped as earlier experience.
