How SwitchWithAI Works, From Upload to Download

A step-by-step walkthrough of SwitchWithAI: upload your resume, paste a job, check your fit, tailor inside your own DOCX, review every change and download.

By SwitchWithAI Team — Career tools, ATS workflows, and job-search research

Most AI resume tools do the same thing: take your resume, run it through a model and hand back something that looks like a template. Your fonts are gone, your layout is gone, and a skill or two you never claimed has appeared.

SwitchWithAI is built the other way round. It works inside the resume you already designed, changes only what your experience supports, and shows you every edit before it lands. Here is the whole flow, step by step, so you know what to expect before you try it.

The idea in one line

Keep your resume's look, match every job. Your document stays yours. The wording moves toward the job, and nothing is added that you have not done.

Step 1: Upload the resume you already have

Start with your existing DOCX, or a PDF. A PDF is rebuilt into an editable document so it can be treated like any DOCX. The tool reads the structure of your file: fonts, spacing, columns, headings.

Before anything is changed, you can get a plain-language view of what is wrong with the base resume. You can also run the free ATS checker at any time to catch mechanical problems like unreadable text or inconsistent dates. We recommend fixing those first, because they affect every application. See ATS checker or resume tailor for the order that wastes the least effort.

Step 2: Paste the job description

Paste the full posting from Naukri, LinkedIn or a company careers page. If you use Naukri, the Chrome extension can capture the posting for you, so you do not copy and paste. Use the real, complete description, not a summary. The more of the actual wording the tool sees, the better it can judge what the employer repeats and cares about.

Tailoring uses an AI model to draft the edits, so your resume text and the posting are processed to produce them. The free ATS check is different: it reads your resume for the check only and does not store it.

Step 3: Check your fit first

Before any rewriting, the fit check shows which requirements in the job your resume already covers and which it does not. This is the honest step. It tells you whether the role is a realistic match, which gaps are real, and which are only a matter of wording. If a job asks for something absent from your resume, you are told it is missing. It is never written in.

We explain this step in fit check explained.

Step 4: Choose how deep to go

You pick one of three modes, depending on how much time and change you want:

ModeWhat it doesTime
FastA light pass over phrasing and termsUnder fifteen seconds
BalancedReworks bullets and sharpens outcomes. What most people useAbout thirty seconds
DeepReviews the whole document as a recruiter would and explains each callA minute or two

Start with Balanced. Use Fast when the resume already fits and you only need a nudge, and Deep when you are changing roles or want a full second opinion.

Step 5: Review every change

This is the step that separates SwitchWithAI from a black box. The result shows each change beside your original line. For each one you can:

  • Accept it as written.
  • Reject it and keep your original.
  • Edit it directly and use your own wording.

You can also set tone rules once, such as preferred phrasing or words to avoid, and they apply to every future tailor. Because you accept changes yourself, the final resume is something you can defend in an interview. Our article tailoring a resume without inventing anything explains why that matters.

Step 6: Download your own DOCX

You get your document back, in your own structure: the fonts, spacing, margins and columns you started with. Designer templates come back intact. Download the DOCX, or a PDF, and apply.

If you use the Chrome extension on Naukri, there is also an optional action that uploads the tailored resume to your own Naukri profile, using the browser session you are already signed in with. It runs only when you trigger it, and SwitchWithAI never sees your Naukri password. You can also simply download and upload it yourself.

What SwitchWithAI will not do

It helps to be clear about the edges.

  • It does not apply to jobs for you. No auto-apply, nothing sent without you. It is a workspace, not a bot.
  • It does not invent skills or numbers. If you lack something, it flags it.
  • It does not replace your design with a template.
  • It does not build a resume from a blank page. It improves the one you have.

Your data

Your resume and files are yours. You can delete a resume, a role or your whole account, and the files go with it.

What a typical session looks like

  1. Run the free check and fix any mechanical faults, once.
  2. Find a job. Paste the posting, or capture it with the extension.
  3. Read the fit check and decide whether to apply.
  4. Tailor in Balanced mode.
  5. Accept, reject or edit each change.
  6. Download, apply, and save the tailored version for that job.

Repeat from step 2 for the next job. The check in step 1 only needs to happen again when you change your base file.

Try it on yours

Upload or paste your resume and see what a parser makes of it.

Your resume is read for the check only and never stored. No account is needed.

Frequently asked questions

Will SwitchWithAI change how my resume looks?

No. It writes back into your document's own structure, so fonts, spacing, margins and columns stay as you built them. Designer templates come back intact.

Does it add skills I do not have?

Never. If a job asks for something missing from your resume, you are told it is missing rather than having it written in.

How long does tailoring take?

Fast takes under fifteen seconds, Balanced about thirty, and Deep a minute or two.

Can I edit the changes it suggests?

Yes. You can accept, reject or edit any change directly, and set tone rules that carry across every future tailor.

Does SwitchWithAI apply to jobs for me?

No. There is no auto-apply, and nothing is sent without you.

What happens to my data?

It is yours. Delete a resume, a role or your account and the files go with it.
