A Calm Plan for Switching Jobs in India
The mechanics of switching in India have their own rhythm: long notice periods, referral-heavy hiring, and offers that arrive in clusters. A little sequencing removes most of the stress.
Start four to six weeks before you intend to apply
Get your base resume in order first, once, properly. Every later application is then a tailoring job of a few minutes rather than an evening of rewriting.
Ask two people who have hired for your role to read it — not friends, hirers. The feedback is different.
Apply in batches
Five to eight considered applications in a week beat forty scattered ones.
Batching also clusters your interviews, which matters enormously when offers arrive: two offers in the same fortnight is a negotiation, one offer alone is an ultimatum you set for yourself.
Treat referrals as a first step, not a shortcut
A referral gets your file read by a person. It does not survive a resume that does not match the role.
Tailor before you ask, and give the referrer two lines they can paste — most people want to help and do not want to write.
Decide about the counter-offer in advance
Write down, before you resign, the number and the conditions under which you would stay.
Deciding in the room, with a manager you like and a resignation letter on the table, is how people end up somewhere they had already decided to leave.
Notice periods are a planning problem, not an obstacle
If your notice is sixty or ninety days, say so early and precisely. Most employers plan around it without complaint when they hear it in the first conversation rather than the last.
Try it on yours
Paste your resume and see what a parser makes of it.
Runs in this tab. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and no account is needed.
Would rather read first? How the tailoring works.
