What an experienced resume needs, in this order.
An ATS reads your resume top to bottom and files each part under a heading it knows. Lead with your work, newest first, and keep every heading standard.

Name, title and contact
Your name, the role you are aiming for, city, phone, email and LinkedIn, as plain text at the top. Never in a page header, a photo or an icon: many parsers skip those.

Summary
Two sentences: your years and field, and what you are known for, with a number you can stand behind. It is the first thing a recruiter reads, and the part tailoring changes most for each job.

Experience
Each job with its title, company and dates as "Apr 2022 – Present", newest first. Two to four bullets each, starting with what you did (Led, Built, Cut) and ending with what came of it.

Education
Degree, institution and year, below your work once you have a few years of experience. Drop school marks and CGPA after your first job unless an application asks for them.

Skills
The tools and methods you use at work, written the way job posts write them: Power BI, Node.js, SAP S/4HANA. The builder picks up the ones you already mention in your jobs.

Certifications and achievements
Professional certifications, awards and things you are known for, one line each. A team you lead or a talk you gave belongs here if it is not already in a job.
Format rules
Why the layout matters to an ATS.
- One column is the safest for any portal. Two columns work when they are built to read in order: the Sidebar and Banner layouts here are one simple table that reads the side column and then your work, never text boxes.
- Standard headings: Summary, Experience, Education, Skills. "Career Journey" or "What I Bring" may be filed in the wrong place.
- Dates the same way everywhere, month and year. "Present" for your current job, never a day of the month.
- Real text everywhere. Skill bars, star ratings, charts and logos are invisible to a parser.
- No photo, date of birth, marital status or declaration, unless an application asks for them.
- Send a PDF where a portal accepts it, and keep the Word file to edit and tailor for each job.
After you build it
An ATS-friendly resume still has to match each job.
Passing the parser is the floor. Recruiters then search by the words in their own job post. Tailoring adjusts your resume to each posting, using the job’s words only where your experience backs them up, and keeps your layout exactly as it is.

What people ask before they rebuild their resume.
What makes a resume ATS-friendly?
Real text in a sensible reading order, standard headings (Summary, Experience, Education, Skills), a common font, and no text boxes, images of text, skill bars or icons in place of words. Dates are written the same way throughout, such as "Apr 2022 – Present", and tools are spelt the way job posts spell them, such as Power BI and Node.js.
Should an experienced resume list education first?
No. Once you have real work experience, recruiters read your jobs first, newest at the top, and education moves below them. This builder does that for you as soon as you add a job: Experience comes first and Education follows your work.
Are two-column resumes safe for an ATS?
They can be, if the columns are built so a parser reads them in order. The Sidebar and Banner layouts here are one simple borderless table that reads the side column and then your work, with no text boxes. Classic, Timeline and Tech are one column, the safest choice for any portal.
How long should a resume be with five or more years of experience?
One page is usually enough up to about ten years if each job keeps two or three bullets about results. The builder keeps three jobs, two degrees and a dozen skills on one A4 page in every layout; past that, cut older roles to one line rather than shrinking the font.
How should I write dates on my resume?
Month and year, the same way everywhere: "Jun 2021 – Mar 2024", or "Present" for your current job. The builder converts dates such as 20/4/2026 or 2026-04-20 to "Apr 2026" and explains why, and it flags anything that is not a date.
