The document you never send is the one that determines how good the ones you do send are.
The tailoring is only as good as the evidence it has to work with.
Write down the range
Adjacent tools, second languages, the domain you only touched for a quarter. If it is real and you could discuss it, it belongs in the source file.
Record the evidence, not the duty
Baseline, what changed, over what period, and how you know. That is what a tailored bullet gets built from. 'Responsible for X' gives it nothing to work with.
Interview-safe, every line
A master CV is not a wishlist. If you could not talk through a line for two minutes under mild pressure, it should not be in there in the first place.
Before
Worked on the checkout team. Improved performance.
After
Checkout team, 2022–24. Cut payment drop-off 22% → 13% over two releases by rebuilding card retry logic. Measured in the funnel dashboard.
The second version records the baseline, the change, the timeframe, the mechanism and the source. A tailored resume can draw on any of those; from the first version it has nothing.
Do this before moving on
Pick the accomplishment you are proudest of and write it out with all five: baseline, change, timeframe, how you did it, and how you know. Most people find they cannot remember the baseline — go and look it up now, while you still can.
