The Last Two Minutes
A short checklist that catches the errors that actually cost people roles.
The last two minutes catch the errors the previous two hours created.
The obvious ones
Right company name. Right role title. The file named as something a stranger would open — your name and the role, not resume_final_v3.
The mechanical ones
Contact details in the body. One date format. Opens correctly as a .docx or PDF on a machine that is not yours.
The one that matters
Every line defensible. If you changed anything in the last ten minutes, read it once more — late edits are where errors hide.
Before
resume_final_v3.docx, still naming the previous company you applied to in the summary.
After
your-name-product-designer.pdf, with the summary matching this role.
The wrong company name in a summary is the single most common self-inflicted rejection, and it happens almost entirely to people reusing yesterday's tailored file.
Do this before moving on
Before your next application, read only the top third of the document — name line, summary, first role. That is where reused-file errors live, and it takes twenty seconds.
